Design the frame as usual and give the footage a layer: either a layer with a video fill, or any shape with “video” or “clip” in its name. Then run Video Exportify, attach your clip to that layer and export. You get a video of the whole design with the clip playing inside the layer, cropped and placed the way the layer is.
- 01
Give the footage a layer
Put a video fill on a layer, or name an empty rectangle something like “video 1” or “hero-clip”. It has to sit inside the frame you will export. Text layers never become video layers.
- 02
Attach a clip to each video layer
Every layer with a video fill, or with “video” or “clip” in its name, is listed as a slot. Upload a clip, drop a file on the slot, or reuse one you already uploaded.
- 03
Export
Pick the length and press Export. The MP4 is ready in seconds and is named after the frame.
Why the clip has to be attached again
Figma does not hand a plugin the bytes of a video that is already on the canvas; its API exposes only a fingerprint of it. So the plugin asks for the file once more, from your disk, even if the same file is sitting in the frame. Nothing is uploaded until you press Export.
Text and effects on top of the video
Anything above the video layer stays above it in the export: headlines, logos, stickers, gradients. A layer that blurs what is behind it keeps blurring the moving footage, frame by frame.
Questions
What if my frame has several video layers?
Each one is listed and takes its own clip. Drop several files on the list and they are matched by name, then by order. The same clip can be reused for several layers.
Does the sound come along?
Yes, if you leave Audio on. The export keeps the sound of your source clips.
